Welcome to the asmrliving.com 2024 ASMR Survey.

We polled 1,277 people, asking 9 questions on who they watch, why, how ASMR makes them feel and what they like and dislike about ASMR.

To make it a bit more fun we included a quote at the start of each result which came from the relevant comments we had.

We all have our favourite ASMRtists. And there are a lot of them!

And most people will have more than one ASMRtist they use which is why we offered the option to have a multiple choice.

Interestingly ‘perfectionist‘ appeared in most of the comments on all of the questions we asked.

1,264 people responded to this multiple choice question. And the order of some of the responses were a bit surprising. Measuring almost as popular as Whispering?

And I thought Tapping would have been more popular – shows what I know!

So why do people watch ASMR? 1,272 folks answered our multiple choice question and the results were pretty much as expected.

Although perhaps ‘Entertainment’ was more popular than expected? But that was probably as it was also done at the same as say ‘Relaxing’.

There were 136 new ASMRtists chosen by 482 people. As many people pointed out they may not be new new, but new to them. And who really knows when someone actually started!

478 people chose 130 different types of new asmr styles they would like to see.

Many of the suggestions do already exist. Maybe the YouTube algorithm is being as expansive with its suggestions as it could be?

Q8. Biggest ASMR turn off?

Quote: ‘Mouth sounds and whispers, eeewww.’

879 people answered the question what is their biggest ASMR turn off?

So what some people find incredibly irritating other will say that it’s their favourite trigger! And vice versa.

But there were some real themes here about what people found a real turnoff:

Sound Triggers including eating, chewing, Mukbang and wet sounds

Tapping including fast and aggressive styles as well as click sounds

Sharp and Dull tests were seen as being too boring by a lot of people

Repetition of words or phrases were not liked by a surprisingly high number of people

Whispering was also quite disliked – interesting!

Q9. How does watching & listening to ASMR videos make you feel?

Quote: ‘It is a way to wind down I feel it’s a way one could release anxiety.’

1,226 people answered the question how does watching & listening to ASMR make you feel?

I think we expected Sleepy to be the number 1 response. But were surprised that Comfortable was ahead of Tingly.

Key take homes for ASMRtists from user comments

If you are an ASMRtist reading this here is some additional information you may need to know for 2024 based on some of the comments from our survey:

Viewers really do not like mid roll ads – no surprise there!

Try something new – the algo may reward doing the same style but viewers want something different, but from You!

Viewers like to have your content playing in the background. So think how you can maximise that for them.

There is a demand for alternative therapy and older style not so over produced ASMR. Keep it natural.

Keep introductions short. A lot of folks really do not like long intros. For example intro’s to medical exams.

ASMR Survey 2024 Methodology & Sources

This survey was conducted between January 14th and 16th January 2024.

There were 1,227 people who took part in the survey – thanks very much if you were one of them!

We asked 9 questions and some of these had options to give unique answers.

There were 11,493 individual questions asked 77% were fully answered and 23% partially so.

Some of the data that came in the form of comments was hard to split into specific answers so we have done our best to reflect the theme of the answers in those cases.

No personal data was collected at any stage of the survey.

This is not a statistically weighted survey – but is a collection of responses from those who chose to answer.

Why did we conduct this Survey?

There is very little wider research into ASMR and we are by no means experts on how to conduct surveys.

We are just interested in what people think and why they choose to watch certain asmrtists.

But no one else is doing any ASMR surveys so we thought we would give it another go this year.

And we liked getting some information from our survey last year and wanted to get some answers to different questions this year.

Hopefully we will be back next year with more questions and insights!
